INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, THE INTERNET & YOU

First and foremost, we are very grateful to continue our study for this semester. Then, we registered in this subject which may help us a lot in the future in developing our economy. 

As the first lesson, we learned about the information technology, the internet and how it relates us. 
There are five components of an information system which are : 

People 
The part which is really important of any system. Indirect and Direct contact. Its used for Business & Entertainment and Education & Medicine


Procedures 
A procedure is a series of documented actions taken to achieve something. A procedure is more than a single simple task. A procedure can be quite complex and involved, such as performing a backup, shutting down a system, patching software.

Software 
The programs and applications that convert data into machine-readable language are known as software

Hardware 
Input and output devices constitute the hardware components of management information system.

Data 
The data collection, coding, and analysis proceeded iteratively (Glaser and Strauss, 1967); that is, the early stages of the research were more open-ended, while the later stages were directed by the emerging concepts and hence involved more strategic selection of archival data and informants and more structured interview protocols.
Data collection focussed on context, technology, key players, and change processes.

Next is about system software and application software that we are unconsciously used in our daily life. A collection of programs which is also known as system software is very important to make sure that our system functioned well. Its enables the application software to interact with the hardware while the “Background software” helps the computer manage its own resources. Next, Application Software is an end-user software two major categories. This offer a basic application and specialized applications. 



Three kinds of system software programs :

1) Loader - The part of an operating system that is responsible for loading programs. 

2) Utility software - Should be contrasted with application software,which allows users to do thing like creating text documents,playing games,listening to music or surfing the web. 

3) Database Management System(DBMS) - A set of computer programs that controls the creation maintenance and the use of a database. 

Basic Application and Specialized Application

Basic Application are the programs one has to know to be considered computer competent and are widely use in nearly all career areas.

Specialized Application include thousand of other programs that are more focused on specific disciplines and occupations,such as graphics and multimedia.

What is computer?


- A computer is one of the most brilliant inventions of mankind.
- Able to achieve an efficient storage and processing of data.
- Computers of earlier years were of the size of a large room and required to consume huge amounts of electric power.

Four types of computers

1- Analog Computers

• Alomost extinct today
• Different from a digital computer because analog computer can perform several mathematical operations silmultaneously

 2- Hybrid Computer

• Combination of both digital and analog computers

3- Mainframe Computers

• Most have the capacities to host multiple operations systems and operate as a number of virtual machines.

4- Digital Computers

• Computing machines which work on priciple of binary maths.
• When clubbed with analog computer produce hybrid computer.

Four types of microcomputers

1) Desktop - Small enough to fit on top / alongside

2) Notebook / laptop - Portable, highweight and fit into most briefcases

3) Netbooks - Similar to laptop but small, lighter and less expensive

4) Media Center Systems Units - Blur the line between dekstop computers and dedicated entertaiment devices
